Achievements
The nearly 300-thousand members enrolled in our programs represent an outstanding accomplishment for Health Plus. Having more people with health coverage in our communities strengthens us all, and helps everyone work together to stay healthy.

Our many achievements over the past 25 years have not gone unnoticed. Here are some recent highlights.

FACILITATED ENROLLMENT ELECTRONIC APPLICATION PROJECT (FEEA)
  • At a press conference hosted December 2009 by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, we announced the success of our implementation of FEEA™ – the Facilitated Enrollment Electronic Application process – which, after two years of testing and development, is having an enormous impact on the speed of access to the healthcare delivery system for the citizens of New York City and beyond. We launched FEEA in an effort to simplify the cumbersome paper application process for prospective members and reduce the time it takes for eligible New Yorkers to enroll in our health insurance plans. We’re proud to announce that we have seen members enrolled in as little as seven days, where thirty- and forty-five-day waiting periods were once the norm. The implications of FEEA are tremendous and go a long way towards helping us realize our mission of providing access to quality healthcare to all who qualify.
HEALTH PLUS DAY
  • Thursday August 20th, 2009, was officially proclaimed “Health Plus Day” by:
    • State – Governor David Paterson
    • State - Senator Charles Schumer
    • City - Mayor Michael Bloomberg
    • Brooklyn - Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz
    • Staten Island - Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro
    • Queens - Queens Borough President Helen Marshall
    • Manhattan - Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer
    • Bronx - Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr
    • Nassau County - Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi
CRAINS
  • Health Plus is ranked eighth on Crain's New York Business list of the largest managed care organizations in NYC.
QUALITY
  • In 2008, we received 105 points on our Quality Incentive, awarding us an additional 1.5% in Medicaid Premiums, which translates to an additional 6 million dollars in annual funding.
  • In August 2009 we had our annual SDOH CHP audit. This audit is to ensure we are processing on time and making correct eligibility determination for our CHP population. We are proud to announce that we passed our audit with phenomenal results. We had zero errors in eligibility determination (Schedule I) and zero errors in data entry (Schedule II). This is a first for HealthPlus! In the words of the state auditors, 'whatever you (HP) are doing continue doing it."
  • In 2008 the state came out with a regulation that all applications must be submitted to HRA within 15 days from signature date. We are proud to report that with team efforts from Marketing, Retention and Enrollment HealthPlus has not missed one application from being submitted within the 15 day deadline. We are 100 percent in compliance.
  • Our low voluntary disenrollment rates indicate that members are satisfied with our programs.
  • • In 2004, we received the prestigious Ellis J. Bonner Community Leadership Award for community service and outstanding contributions in healthcare -- the equivalent of the "Oscars" in the health insurance field.
MEDICARE
  • In 2008, Health Plus launched Health Plus Elite, a Medicare Managed Care Plan for Seniors and others eligible for Medicare.
  • On November 15th, 2009, we begin our first open enrollment for our brand new Medicare Special Needs Plan – Health Plus Elite (HMO). With this new plan, tailored to meet the needs of New Yorkers with Medicare and Medicaid, we’re bringing our healthcare expertise to serve one of our most vulnerable populations.
MEMBER SURVEY
  • In an effort to put our members at the center of our decision-making process, we have initiated a comprehensive Member Survey to give us a better understanding of the needs and concerns of all Health Plus Members.
OUTREACH
  • May 2009 we hosted our 8th Annual Asthma Poster Contest in collaboration with the NYC Dept of Education, NYC Dept of Transportation and the NY Mets, holding our awards ceremony at brand new CitiField
  • In October of 2009, Health Plus, along with Lutheran Medical Center, partnered with the soon-to-be-Brooklyn Nets of the NBA to fight Childhood Obesity in South Brooklyn.
  • In 2008, we launched an innovative Teen Health Initiative which includes:
    • Teen Advisory Board which meets bi-monthly at Health Plus Office
    • Teen Link in Health Plus website
    • Teen Newsletter
  • In 2008 we expanded our Health Plus’ Maternal/Child Health Program
    • “Healthy Beginnings” pregnancy guide distributed to all prenatal members and enhanced Outreach efforts promoting importance of prenatal care visits, post-partum care visit, and newborn visit (i.e., phone calls; postcards)
    • Educational workshops citywide promoting a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby (i.e., Prenatal Care; Newborn Care; Breastfeeding)
    • “Safety Showers” (in collaboration with the NYCDOT & NYCDOH- Injury Prevention Program)
