New York Metro Area, NY - December 14, 2003 — After last year's huge amount of snowfall and cold snaps, New Yorkers were looking for a break this year. Unfortunately, after being hammered with snow two weekends in a row, it doesn't look like we'll be getting that break after all. To the many of us who have to commute or work in this cold, it's an inconvenience. But to many New Yorkers without homes, it maybe a death sentence.

That's why Health Plus, the Medicaid managed care organization, recently partnered with radio stations WBLS, WLIB, and Radio Unica to collect coats for the needy. The companies held coat drives at four different locations throughout the city including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. The collected coats will be donated to community organizations throughout the city which will soon distribute the garments to the needy.

Last year, Health Plus, the largest provider of government sponsored health insurance in the city and state, collected almost 1,500 coats to distribute to individuals in need.

"Health Plus is committed to providing help in a variety of ways to those in our communities who are in need," says Ada Rodriguez, Chief Marketing Officer for Health Plus. "We were delighted to organize this year's coat drive. We know that it will keep many individuals warm during this frigid winter."
