New York, NY - December 19, 2002 — Health Plus, the not-for-profit managed care organization, held its 8th annual Holiday coat drive for the needy in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

Last Sunday, in collaboration with several community based organizations and radio stations, Health Plus was able to collect around 2,000 coats at simultaneous events and will continue collecting coats at its drop off locations.

Every year, beginning in December, hundreds of generous community residents and Health Plus staff members donate used coats that are given to community-based organizations that distribute them to the needy. Over 2,275 coats were collected last year. On January 12, Health Plus will give all the coats that it has collected to seven different faith-based community organizations, one in The Bronx, two in Brooklyn, one in Manhattan two in Queens and one in Staten Island. Each site will distribute around 400.

The event was a success thanks to the support of Spanish language radio stations Latino Mix 105.9 FM and WADO 1280 AM. There was a simultaneous live broadcast of the events by both stations from noon until six in the evening. Adding to the Holiday spirit, Latin artists Johnny Ray, Las Chiviricas, Miosotis and Fulanito were present and provided an afternoon of music.
