What is a Medicare Special Needs Plan?

Health plan options (like HMOs and PPOs), approved by Medicare and run by private companies, Medicare Special Needs Plans offer the opportunity to improve care for Medicare beneficiaries with special needs, primarily through better coordination and continuity of care. Dual-eligible SNPs also offer the opportunity for enhanced benefits. Most of these plans have networks of doctors and other medical providers that see you if you belong to the plan. These are not supplemental health insurance.
