The Federal Government estimates that there are approximately 47 million Americans, including 8 million children, who are living today without health insurance. With such alarming statistics, it’s no wonder that many organizations nationwide, including managed health care organization Health Plus, diligently commit themselves each year to raising awareness across the country of the plight of the uninsured.
Founded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, “Cover the Uninsured Week” is a nationwide annual event which this year spanned from March 22nd to March 28th. Once again, Health Plus was a major sponsor in the New York area.
“Sponsoring this week is a virtual extension of our business,” says Executive Director for Health Plus, Tom Early. “Offering people access to free and affordable healthcare is what we’re about. But we’re so grateful to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for putting this issue of the lack of universal health insurance in our country on the table in so prominent a way. It’s a great initiative and we’re honored to be part of it.”
Health Plus, whose mission it is every day of the year to cover the uninsured, worked hard to step up its efforts even further during the weeklong event, organizing health fairs throughout the five boroughs and Nassau County to promote the State-sponsored healthcare coverage that Health Plus offers. Representatives were ready and able to provide answers to questions from potential members about the medical plans – Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Health Care Plus -- provided by Health Plus.
