Brooklyn, New York - September 30, 2008 — Last week, at the National Grid Building in Brooklyn’s Metrotech, the Russian American Health Coalition and the Jewish Community Relations Council presented “Healthcare in the Russian-Speaking Community: Opportunities and Challenges Conference.”  Managed care organization Health Plus was there as a proud sponsor and also in support of the company’s Executive Director, Tom Early, who was invited as a panelist.

In any diaspora to the United States, there will be a period of adjustment, which can take several generations and requires the group to find their social niche, including utilizing critical services, such as housing, education, and, of course, healthcare.  The purpose of the conference was give both business and community groups a forum to share their visions, concerns, needs, and experiences, as well as provide a chance to network and build new relationships.

The speakers and the day were divided into two panels: Challenges and Opportunities. Both covered a wide array of topics, including: the healthcare delivery system, health insurance, public health, home care, cultural awareness, and the role of the media.

“We are greatly honored and fortunate to be a part of this discussion, “said Tom Early, Executive Director of Health Plus.  “Reaching out to each and every community is a big part of our mission and who we are.  We feel that, as new Americans, the Russian-speaking community deserves the same level of care as any other group in our city.  Meeting with other organizations that have the same goals will help all of us to find the solutions to any challenges we face, and I am confident that success is well within reach.

At the podium, Tom Early, Executive Director of Health Plus, speaks to the panel and audience at the “Healthcare in the Russian-Speaking Community: Opportunities and Challenges Conference”, at the National Grid building in Brooklyn’s Metrotech Plaza.
