Bronx Dominican Day Parade Continues to Please Crowds

Bronx, New York - July 28, 2008 —  This past Sunday, hundreds of thousands of Dominicans and New Yorkers of all origins lined the sidewalks along the Grand Concourse – between 161st Street and 184th Street – as the 18th Annual Bronx Dominican Day Parade made its way past the carpet of flags and cheers that pulsed with the excitement that only a parade could bring to this already lively neighborhood.  Once again, managed care organization Health Plus was there, not only as a major sponsor and as a visible force in the procession, but also there to support their Director of Communications and External Affairs, Kathryn Soman, who was this year’s International Madrina (Godmother) of the parade.

For Dominicans, it was a touch of home right here in the heart of New York.  For others, it was a chance to see this vibrant culture, first hand.  Although smaller than its counterpart parade – the National Dominican Day Parade, held each August in Manhattan – The Bronx Dominican Day Parade offers a much more intimate setting and gives those in attendance a chance to really enjoy Dominican culture, music, dance, and, of course, food, in a day-long celebration.

“It was an honor to be the Madrina for this parade,” said Kathryn Soman, Director of Communications and External Affairs for Health Plus. “I know that outer-borough parades don’t always get as much attention as some of the bigger ones in Manhattan, but I’ve always felt a strong connection to the more intimate parades, and, especially to this one.  It really seems to be put together for the people, and you can tell from the way that it is cherished by the community.”
