What Is Corporate Compliance and What Does It Mean to Health Plus?

Health Plus leadership is committed to strong business ethics, accountability and is focused on Corporate Compliance within the company. Compliance requires each of us to follow the law. Ethics encourages us to follow moral principles and values.

The mission of our compliance team is to promote and monitor compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. This includes regulations governing federal and state healthcare programs, fraud and abuse matters, ethics, privacy and security requirements, and corporate governance.

Laws surrounding healthcare services are complex. A strong compliance program is crucial to any healthcare company, large or small. A strong compliance program helps our company maintain its commitment to being an honest and responsible provider. It does this by identifying and preventing illegal and unethical conduct; improving the quality and consistency of patient care; creating a structure for employees to report potential problems; and developing procedures for prompt and thorough investigation of misconduct.

Health Plus implemented its compliance program in 2002, instituting a proactive program before most of its competitors. The initial purpose of compliance was to reduce liability under the law. Over the years, compliance has evolved into a more integral business component with its focus on maintaining the company’s status as a good corporate citizen.

The compliance department works closely with other company departments, from operations to health services, as well as the board of directors to ensure the adherence to compliance standards outlined in Health Plus Code Of Ethics and Business Standards.

The Compliance Department delivers close to 10,000 contact hours of compliance-related training each year to keep staff abreast of the latest requirements and best practices. Health Plus employees are required to take yearly compliance training course, along with other training depending on the role they play in the company. Every Health Plus employee, whether a clinician or support or administrative associate, is educated in compliance. Every employee is responsible for ensuring his or her own ethical behavior and compliance with the Health Plus Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
