Between Jackson and Tinton Avenues, 152nd Street was flooded with thousands of people, some to show their Puerto Rican pride, others support, but all to have a great time. The aromas of traditional Puerto Rican cuisine permeated the air as festival-goers danced to the sounds of salsa and merengue in the hot June sunshine.
“People often ask me why we get so excited about the National Puerto Rican Day Parade,” said Tom Early, Executive Director of Health Plus, “but it isn’t just the parade -- the dozens of events that precede and follow it that truly make it a phenomenon. This festival is another sign that the parade is around the corner, getting everyone excited and in the mood to celebrate. While the parade might take place in Manhattan next week, this is where it really begins.”
