Health Education and Community Outreach
HECO is responsible for Health Plus News, the quarterly member newsletter, and for Magic On Hold, the educational telephone hold message. HECO works closely with hospitals, health centers, and community-based organizations to provide health education classes that meet the health, geographical, and cultural needs of Health Plus members. They also provide new members with a culturally and linguistically diverse staff for support in understanding how to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system. This is done through face-to-face presentations in the community, as well as by phone. HECO also develops and implements targeted outreach programs for appropriate utilization of services. Some current programs include: the Immunization Campaign, Emergency Room Utilization, Well Child Visits for 6 and 12 month olds, CHP Utilization, Prenatal Care, and Primary Care Visits for new Medicaid members. HECO aids members to receive needed care through referrals to Health Services and Members Services. Together with clinical leadership, HECO identifies and supports new health initiatives.
