Dr. Cliff Marbut MD

Since 1993 Dr. Cliff Marbut has been responsible for insuring that Health Plus's members receive quality healthcare and that our providers are reimbursed fairly for their services. In 1993, Health Plus had 10,000 members, one hospital (Lutheran Medical Center), and under 200 providers. Today, there are over 245,000 members, 65 hospitals, and more than 13,000 providers in the five boroughs of New York City. Health Plus is the highest ranked plan in New York City for quality and member satisfaction.

A graduate of the University of Chicago School of Medicine, Dr. Marbut is a board certified pediatrician who had his residency training at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. He received a Masters in Public Health with concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Marbut's clinical practice began as a staff pediatrician in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in the low income underserved communities of Oakland, California, and Los Angeles. He was also Chairperson for Quality Assurance for the Watts Health Plan, an FQHC sponsored Medicaid Managed Health Plan. Doctor Marbut subsequently held positions as Medical Director for several commercial health plans.

Since joining Health Plus, Dr. Marbut has overseen the development of the Medical Management division of Health Plus. Medical Management encompasses Network Development and Provider Relations; Health Services; Behavioral Health; Quality Improvement; Health Education and Community Outreach. With over 200 employees, the Medical Management team has brought Health Plus to the top in quality care, innovative disease management programs, health education programs in the schools and community, management of our members' behavioral problems, and provider satisfaction.

Health Plus is the number one plan in the New York City Consumers Guide to Medicaid Managed Care. For the second year in a row, Health Plus is a finalist in the America's Health Insurance Plans' Ellis J. Bonner Community Leadership Award. Medical Management intends to repeat and expand on these successes in coming years.

Dr. Marbut is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Board of Quality and Review Physicians; a Certified Managed Care Executive; and member of the American College of Physician  Executives. In his free time, he is an avid bicycle rider and downhill skier.
