New York, NY - May 8, 2006 — The Federal Government estimates that there are approximately 46 million Americans, including 8 million children, that are living today without health insurance.  With such alarming statistics, it’s no wonder that many organizations nationwide, including managed health care organization Health Plus, diligently commit themselves each year to raising awareness across New York City of the plight of the uninsured.

Founded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, “Cover the Uninsured Week” is a nationwide annual event, which this year spanned from May 1st to May 7th. Once again, Health Plus was a major sponsor.

“Sponsoring this week is a virtual extension of our business,” says Executive Director for Health Plus, Tom Early. “Offering people access to free and affordable healthcare is what we’re about. But we’re so grateful to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for putting this issue of the lack of universal health insurance in our country on the table in so prominent a way each first week of May. It’s a great initiative and we’re honored to be part of it.”

Health Plus, whose mission it is every day of the year to cover the uninsured, worked hard to step up its efforts even further during the weeklong event, organizing health fairs throughout the five boroughs and Nassau County to promote the free and affordable healthcare coverage that Health Plus offers.  Representatives were ready and able to provide answers to questions from potential members about the medical plans – Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Health Care Plus -- provided by Health Plus.

Health Plus employees Yvette Rosado, Angel Rivera, and Josephine Marino accept a proclamation on behalf of their company for “Cover the Uninsured Week” by Joanne Nuzzo – Director of Special Events of the Staten Island Borough President’s Office.

Alcedo Quezado, Sonia Antequera, and Josette Pagan of Health Plus, along with a face-painting clown, gather with residents of Brooklyn’s Sunset Park.
