Brooklyn, NY - July 14, 2006 — Dressed in his signature white tuxedo, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz commenced his annual Seaside Summer Concert Series last night at the Asser Levy Park in Brooklyn, with Health Plus, one of the largest HMOs in the New York area, right alongside Mr. Markowitz in support of this festive summer tradition.

The concert series celebrates its 28th year of providing music to the sandy shores of Brooklyn.  Each year, large crowds flock to the park -- located in Brighton Beach -- to be part of the free spectacle that Mr. Markowitz had established back when he was still a Junior State Senator representing Brooklyn.  It was then, in 1980, that he became known for his attire to the concerts in 1980 when he began wearing white tuxedoes to be seen by technicians coordinating the event.  Since then, the white tuxedo has become a symbol of Brooklyn’s seaside music and fun.

Health Plus sponsored the event – and many of its staff members were in attendance, including Executive Director Tom Early, to kick off this summer’s concert festivities with Al Green, the American soul and gospel icon of the 1970s, performing his classics. “Partnering with Marty to present these annual concert series,” says Tom Early, “is one of the highlights of our year at Health Plus. We are a Brooklyn-born and Brooklyn-based company, and even though we serve the five boroughs and Nassau County, Brooklyn is our home.”

This year’s festivities will also bring Julio Iglesias, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Liza Minnelli, and other well-known musical artists to the borough of Brooklyn.

Concerts will be held every Thursday night at 7:30pm until the end of the summer in late August.  Patrons are welcomed to bring their own seats or rent a chair at designated areas of the park for five dollars.

Executive Director of Health Plus Tom Early, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and wife, Jamie Markowitz, applauded to the performers of the Seaside Concert Series, a 28th year concert event initiated by Markowitz and sponsored by Health Plus.

Angel Rivera, Josette Pagan, Ada Rodriguez, Jamie Markowitz – wife of Borough President Marty Markowitz -- Cleo Dixon, Janet E. Willis, Yvette Rosado, Tom Early, and Manuel Quezada.
