Queens, NY - July 11, 2005 — Columbians celebrated the anniversary of their independence day yesterday at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, as representatives from managed care organization Health Plus worked the crowd, offering free and affordable healthcare to all who qualified.

Colombia won its independence on August 7th 1819.  Even though this event came early this year, scores of thousands came out for the festivities, which included musical performances from top Columbian artists Sonora Antillana, Insignia Vallenata, and Las Nuevas Lunas.  Waving Columbian flags and proudly wearing red, yellow, and blue – the Columbian flag’s colors --event goers also sampled traditional foods and witnessed folk dances.  A special appearance was made by Miss Colombia, Adriana Tarud.  Once again Health Plus, the Medicaid managed care organization, sponsored the day’s activities.

“We are always proud to support a festivity that unites the community and produces goodwill and cheer,” says Health Plus’s Chief Marketing Officer Ada Rodriguez.  “We’re proud to exhibit our commitment to the community by sponsoring cultural events like this.”

“We are very happy to support our Colombian neighbors in the community,” says Regional Marketing Manager for Health Plus, Manuel Antonio Quezada.  “It is one of our favorite festivals and a great time is always had by everyone in attendance.”
