NEW YORK, NY - May 11, 2005 — “Being called the ‘Best in New York’ is nothing to sneeze at,” says Chief Marketing Officer of Health Plus, Ada Rodriguez, who picked up the award for the managed healthcare organization Monday night, May 9th, at a gala event at Manhattan’s Hilton Hotel. “As one of New York City’s largest HMOs, providing free and affordable healthcare to over 260,000 members, we take our mission very seriously. But it’s great to know that others recognize the good work we do.”

The award was one of five presented that evening by New York City College of Technology Foundation at their “Best of New York” New York at Your Service Awards Dinner. Exceptional corporate service to the community was the theme that tied together the five honorees. Along with Health Plus, Jerome Belson, President, Associated Builders & Owners of Greater New York; Turner Construction Company; Gale Group/New York; and Michael Romano, Executive Chef/Partner, Union Square Café, were cited for exemplifying “the very best traditions of New York City’s service-oriented economy in the housing, advertising, public relations, food service, and healthcare fields.”

The ceremony began at 6pm with a Guest of Honor reception in the Trianon Ballroom, followed by dinner and the awards presentation at 7pm. Over 400 business, industry, community and union leaders attended, as well as public officials, City Tech alumni, students, and faculty.

Health Plus was saluted for, among other accomplishments, “promoting the health of a culturally diverse population through greater partnerships with members, providers, and community-based organizations.”

“At Health Plus,” said Ada Rodriguez, upon accepting her award, “we do strive to be the best healthcare company in New York City. And, starting August, we’re going to work hard to be the best health plan available to lower income residents of Nassau County, too. It’s a team effort. All of our staff and all of our departments are committed to serving our more than 260,000 members. Whether it’s Marketing, Member Services, Provider Relations, Health Services or Community Outreach -- we all give it the best we’ve got.

“But thank you, City Tech, for noting our dedication to our members, to the communities we serve, and to our city. We don’t work for recognition, but it does feel great when people recognize the value in what we do.”
