Health Plus & Top Brooklyn Pols Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

NEW YORK, NY - May 2, 2005 — Sunday, May 1, an all-day family festival celebrating Mexico’s great national holiday – Cinco de Mayo – was hosted by Health Plus, one of New York City’s largest HMOs, on site at Health Max pharmacy in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park. Together with scores of delighted neighborhood residents, numerous heavy hitters in Brooklyn politics were in attendance, including 51st District Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz (along with Health Max, a sponsor of the event), City Councilwoman Sara M. Gonzalez, and Borough President Marty Markowitz.

Munching on free hot dogs and swigging bottled water, guests soaked in the carnival-like atmosphere, with free rides for children, free photos, and a raffle for various prizes. They were also treated to a musical performance by a traditional Mexican mariachi band.

For Health Plus, which hosts nearly 5,000 community events annually around the city, Cinco de Mayo marks the start of its busy spring and summer season.

“At Health Plus,” says Director of Marketing Angel Rivera, “we love offering this kind of day to the families we serve. Sunset Park is our home base; “he adds, “it’s  where this company began, so it’s really great to see the children and their parents here having such fun.”
