Bronx Celebrates Lunar New Year 4703

Bronx, NY - April 4, 2005 — As Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, the Honorable Liu Bi Wie, Consul General of China, and other dignitaries looked on, members of the Project Open Door Senior Center dance troupe marked the start of Year 4703 -- Year of the Rooster – as part of the Bronx’s Lunar New Year Celebration, a festive ceremony held late last month.

Managed care organization Health Plus sponsored the event, which was presented by the Bronx borough president in conjunction with The Chinese American Culture & Art Association, Bronx Asian American Economic Development Corporation, The Bronx Heritage Society, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Among the honorees were Dr. Perry Pong, of Jacobi Medical Center, and Tony Chang, New Hawaii Sea Restaurant. The Honorable Liu Bi Wei, Consul General, People’s Republic of China, was guest speaker. Performances by Lisa Asari and Andrew Cheung, Neko Zhang, and the CPC Choir were enjoyed by all in attendance, while the members of Project Open Door Senior Center were greeted with particular delight. The traditional Lion Dance was performed by the Yeh Yung Martial Arts School.
